Florida man handed life sentence for murder, attempted rape of woman on her 93rd birthday

A Florida man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after a jury found him guilty of murdering his girlfriend’s mother on her 93rd birthday—and attempting to sexually assault her in a senior living facility.

Javier Rosado Martinez, 58, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on July 14, according to court documents. He also received a consecutive five-year sentence for attempted sexual battery.

The victim, Dolores Padilla Marrero, was celebrating her 93rd birthday on March 13, 2022, at the St. Joseph Garden Senior Living Complex in Orange County. According to WESH, Rosado Martinez was dating her daughter at the time.

Family members grew worried when they hadn’t heard from Padilla Marrero the next day. When they went to check on her, they reportedly found her naked with a pillow covering her face. A distinctive necklace belonging to Rosado Martinez was discovered on the bed, according to reports.

Authorities later ruled her death a homicide caused by strangulation and blunt force trauma to the chest.

Police arrested Rosado Martinez on March 16, 2022, after security footage reportedly showed him at the facility. Sources claim he had previously lived there with Padilla Marrero and her daughter but was asked to move out in January 2022 due to substance 𝓪𝓫𝓾𝓼𝓮 issues.

Prosecutors had reportedly sought the death penalty, but the judge handed down a life sentence instead.

State Attorney Monique Worrell said, according to WFTV, “Ms. Padilla-Marrero was a woman who opened her home to someone she trusted — and he repaid that trust with unspeakable violence.”

What could possibly drive someone to commit such a heartbreaking act against a woman who had shown them kindness?
