In a tragic turn of events, a Washington D. C. man has been found guilty of taking the life of the mother of his children in a ππ½πΈπΈππΎππ act of violence that unfolded in front of eight young witnesses.
Wonell Jones Jr. , 38, was convicted on July 16 for the first-degree murder of Audora Williams, 33, who was shot more than 20 times in her own apartment.
The harrowing incident took place on July 19, 2022, just days before a scheduled hearing for a protective order that Williams had filed against Jones. This order was meant to keep him away from her, as the couple shared two children and had a tumultuous history. According to the U.
S. Attorneyβs Office, Jones violated this order by entering Williams’ home, where an argument escalated dramatically.
At the time of the shooting, three of Jones’ children, three of Williams’ children, and their shared baby and toddler were present in the apartment. Eyewitness testimony from Jones’ then-15-year-old son revealed the chaos that erupted during the confrontation. The teenager described how the argument grew louder before he heard gunshots ring out, stating, βthe room lit upβ as the violence unfolded.
Reports indicate that Jones used two different firearms during the attack before fleeing to Florida. He was apprehended a month later, thanks to surveillance footage that connected him to the crime. Following his arrest, Jones was extradited back to Washington D.
C. to face justice.
In court, he was convicted not only of first-degree murder while armed but also of possessing a firearm during a violent crime and unlawfully possessing a firearm as a felon. He is set to be sentenced on October 30.
