In a 𝓈𝒽𝓸𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 case that has left a community reeling, the parents of a 4-year-old girl from Aiken, South Carolina, are now facing serious charges related to her tragic death. Authorities allege that the couple used chemicals to dissolve their daughter’s remains and disposed of them in a nearby reservoir.
According to reports, Jeveayah Harris is believed to have died sometime between May 1 and June 15. Court documents suggest that her mother, Michilae Herring, was responsible for the child’s death, and neither parent sought medical help for her. In a troubling twist, Herring allegedly filed a false police report weeks later, claiming that Jeveayah had vanished while playing outside near the family’s chicken coop.
Adding to the complexity of the situation, sources indicate that Herring gave birth to another child on the same night she reported Jeveayah missing. This prompted a multi-agency search, including the FBI, for the little girl. However, on July 4, Aiken County Sheriff Marty Sawyer announced that they believed Jeveayah had been deceased for at least a month.
Both Herring and her partner, Johmarea Harris, have been arrested and charged with homicide by child 𝓪𝓫𝓾𝓼𝓮. Herring is also facing charges for making a false police report. During a press conference on July 9, Sheriff Sawyer revealed that parts of Jeveayah’s body had been discovered and confirmed through familial DNA testing.
He stated, “Extensive and deliberate efforts were made to destroy and conceal evidence following Jeveayah’s death.”
Reports indicate that the couple allegedly used corrosive substances to dissolve Jeveayah’s body on June 8 before disposing of her remains in Cedar Creek Reservoir. Sheriff Sawyer expressed his disbelief, saying, “In my 37 years in law enforcement, I have never, ever heard of anything so horrific.”
Currently, both parents are being held without bond and are considered flight risks. If convicted, they could face 20 years to life in prison for the homicide charges, with Herring facing an additional five years for the false report.
