Woman with Down Syndrome Pushed Down Stairs, Underfed and Left in Cold by Caregivers: Police

A 𝓈𝒽𝓸𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 case of alleged 𝓪𝓫𝓾𝓼𝓮 has emerged from Pennsylvania, where a 20-year-old woman with Down syndrome was reportedly found outside, soaked and injured, after being left in the rain by her caregivers. The disturbing details of her treatment have led to the arrest of two individuals responsible for her care.

 

Yahnae Clegg-Brown, 31, and her boyfriend, Naiyr “Hasan” Sanders, 35, were taken into custody on July 7, facing serious charges of neglect and 𝓪𝓫𝓾𝓼𝓮 of a care-dependent person. According to court documents, their actions have raised grave concerns about the well-being of the young woman, who was reportedly denied food and subjected to physical assaults.

 

The investigation began on April 25 when emergency services received a distress call about a girl crying outside a home for hours. When authorities arrived, they discovered the woman, not a juvenile as initially thought, standing outside in the cold, rainy weather, visibly soaked and in distress.

 

Reports indicate that the victim was found with injuries to her eye and multiple marks on her body, suggesting a history of mistreatment. She was holding a trash bag containing her clothes and appeared malnourished. Emergency medical services responded after she informed officers of her injuries.

Prosecutors allege that the woman had been systematically underfed and assaulted while living with Clegg-Brown and Sanders. According to reports, she was forced to stay in a room with deteriorating bunk beds and lacked basic necessities like sheets or pillows. Disturbingly, investigators claim to have recovered video evidence showing Sanders pushing her down concrete steps and striking her in the face.

 

Sources reveal that the woman, who has diabetes, reportedly lost around 50 pounds during her time in their care, dropping to an alarming weight of approximately 82 pounds. She has since been hospitalized and is now recovering in a safe environment.

 

Both Clegg-Brown and Sanders are currently being held in jail, unable to post bail set at 10% of $250,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 16, where more details about this troubling case may come to light.
