Authorities Find Child’s Remains Days After Father Is Arrested on Parental Kidnapping Charges

In a tragic turn of events, authorities have uncovered the remains of a child in Illinois, just days after the child’s father was arrested on charges related to parental kidnapping. The discovery has left the community in shock and raised urgent questions about the circumstances surrounding the case.

 

The St. Clair County Coroner’s Office is currently working to identify the remains, which were found in Stookey Township on July 8. This grim find is believed to be connected to a parental kidnapping case that began two years ago, when the child was reported missing.

 

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD), the investigation into the child’s disappearance began in July 2024, following a report from the child’s mother. She indicated that her child had last been seen with the father, 32-year-old Ronnell Marquese Jones, in May of that year. At the time, both parents shared custody.

 

In the course of the investigation, Jones allegedly told authorities that his child was living with an “Amish community in Mississippi” and claimed to have seen the child recently. However, the investigation took a serious turn as detectives began to piece together evidence that led them to file for parental kidnapping charges against him in early 2025.

The case saw renewed activity in June 2026, when the child’s mother filed another report, prompting the Desloge Police Department (DPD) to join the investigation. This collaboration ultimately led to the heartbreaking discovery of the child’s remains, although officials have not disclosed the specific evidence that guided them to that location.

 

Following the investigation, a warrant was issued for Jones’s arrest, and he was taken into custody on June 30. Shortly thereafter, a second arrest warrant was issued for 35-year-old Kristie Dora, who was apprehended on July 2. Both individuals are facing charges related to parental kidnapping and harassment, though the nature of Dora’s connection to the child remains unclear. They are currently being held without bond.

 

In a statement, the SLMPD expressed their condolences to the family affected by this devastating case, acknowledging the pain and uncertainty the child’s mother must be experiencing. The department emphasized the community’s need for answers and transparency as the investigation continues.
