In a heartbreaking case that has shocked a community, a father has been sentenced to 60 years behind bars for the tragic death of his 12-year-old son. Anthony Esposito Jr., 52, was found guilty of beating his son, also named Anthony, with a baseball bat, and he reportedly attempted to harm his teenage daughter as well.
The grim events unfolded on May 1, 2025, when police arrived at the Esposito home in Branford, Connecticut, responding to a call about a possible homicide. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of young Anthony, who had succumbed to severe head injuries.
Following the incident, Esposito was apprehended during a traffic stop. Allegedly, he claimed to have heard his mother’s voice urging him to use a baseball bat, leading to the tragic attack on his son. Afterward, he reportedly confronted his 16-year-old daughter, pushing her down the stairs when she inquired about her brother’s whereabouts.
On April 27, Esposito entered a guilty plea for both murder and attempted murder. On July 6, he received a sentence of 60 years, which includes 40 years for the murder of his son and an additional 20 years for the attempted murder of his daughter. These sentences are to be served consecutively, as confirmed by NBC Connecticut.
New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr. expressed the profound sorrow surrounding the case, stating, “Few tragedies are more devastating than the loss of a child.”
As the community grapples with the aftermath of this devastating event, many are left wondering how such a tragedy could unfold in their midst.
