In a heartbreaking case that has shocked the community, an 18-year-old has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the tragic death of 5-year-old Prince McCree. Erik Mendoza, who was just 15 at the time of the crime, pleaded guilty to first-degree intentional homicide, among other charges, in a disturbing incident that unfolded in 2023.
Mendoza, along with 27-year-old David Pietura, was living in the same residence as McCree’s family when the horrific events took place. Court documents reveal that Pietura discovered Mendoza in the act of choking the young boy. Instead of seeking help, Pietura reportedly suggested they conceal the crime, leading to a series of unimaginable actions, including tying up McCree and placing him in garbage bags.
Tragically, when McCree regained consciousness, the situation escalated further. Reports indicate that both Mendoza and Pietura brutally assaulted him, using objects such as a dumbbell and a birdbath. Surveillance footage later captured the two disposing of the child’s lifeless body in a dumpster, a chilling image that has haunted many in the community.
In 2024, Pietura was also sentenced to life for his involvement in this heinous act. Meanwhile, on June 5, 2023, Mendoza received his sentence, which includes the possibility of parole after 50 years. Before the judge delivered the verdict, McCree’s father, Darren McCree, expressed his anguish, stating, “I wish this guy would die and burn. No mercy. And I wish I could do it with my hands. I’m a different person now. My life is my kid’s life.”
