Chesterfield County Police Department – K9 Knight Killed in the Line of Duty While Responding to Domestic Disturbance

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Virginia — A Chesterfield County Police Department K9 was killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic disturbance incident, police officials confirmed.

The incident occurred on May 31, 2026, at a residence on Gumfork Place. According to department records, K9 Knight and his handler were dispatched alongside several officers to handle an active domestic dispute. Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement personnel encountered an immediate threat. K9 Knight was deployed into the high-risk situation to protect the responding officers but was fatally injured during the encounter.

Emergency personnel at the scene were unable to save the police dog, and K9 Knight was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained during the call. The suspect involved in the domestic disturbance was subsequently taken into custody by responding units, and criminal charges are being managed by the local Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
