A 73-year-old Missouri man is accused of opening fire on his neighbors in a stunning escalation of a long-running property dispute, leaving a mother and her teenage daughter fighting for their lives.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Robert Winkelman allegedly walked over to the victims’ home on July 25 to confront them about what he claimed was ongoing activity at the residence. Reports say the 38-year-old woman made a comment to him, and that’s when Winkelman allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot her in the head. Her 17-year-old daughter, who was there at the time, reportedly rushed to help her mother—and was then also shot in the head by the same man.
When law enforcement arrived on the scene, authorities say Winkelman was standing outside his own house. As deputies approached, he allegedly turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger.
All three were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The 73-year-old now faces two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action. A no-bond warrant has been issued, but he remains under medical supervision while in custody.
