Missouri mom allegedly fed 10-pound 1-year-old only 250 calories a day until she died

In a heartbreaking case that has shocked the St. Louis community, a mother has been charged following the tragic death of her 1-year-old daughter, who reportedly survived on just 250 calories a day. Authorities allege that this extreme neglect led to the child’s untimely demise.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Law & Crime, 29-year-old Sausha Mia Myers called 911 on June 14, claiming her daughter was unresponsive and had difficulty breathing. Emergency responders arrived to find the little girl lifeless on the floor, with no pulse. They also discovered a 3-year-old child in the apartment, both children appearing severely malnourished.

The 1-year-old was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to the hospital. Disturbingly, she weighed only 10 pounds, significantly below the average weight of 24 pounds for a child her age. The 3-year-old, weighing just 17 pounds, was also found to be in poor health, with visible scars and in need of medical attention.

Reports indicate that neither child had seen a doctor in over a year, despite the older child having previously been evaluated for low weight. Allegedly, a physician had attempted to educate Myers on proper nutrition for her children. Court documents claim that the deceased child was primarily fed food pouches that amounted to a mere 250 calories daily.

Myers now faces two counts of child 𝓪𝓫𝓾𝓼𝓮 and neglect, and as the investigation continues, she may face additional charges following the autopsy results of her daughter. Currently, she is being held without bond.

This tragic story raises many questions about the welfare of vulnerable children. How can such neglect go unnoticed for so long?
